I also like this idea of listing the interests, and some of yours are common with my 5 yr old... I say thankyou for the inventors of toy story regularly, for a long time it was the only full pharse we heard from our boys mouth - he's now 5 and still stuck at stringing 2 words together.

But, he is alos into books - and taking them to bed, light switches - he has no globe in his room, Thunderbirds is another one he loves - and he counts it donw... often when he wants to finish something he'll do the countdown... and others :)

What an interesting exercise. I don't think anyone would misinterpret it as belittling - it's part of our ASD world, no? I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and try to create a comprehensive list of my son's special interests, but here are a few:

- locking mechanisms on doors
- manholes and their covers, or if they are small, "boyholes"
- all power tools - currently the impact wrench
- car washes
- street sweepers
- carpet cleaners
- safety restraint systems, particularly air bags

I'm convinced he'll make a great mechanical engineer some day.
