Ian,

It was a little over a year wait, but spot me up to six months for a margin of error. Some of the wait was brought on by a dog that wasn't pregnant like everyone thought. She fooled everyone by eating like she was pregnant. Dogs don't get as many ultrasounds during pregnancy as people do, but eventually the gig was up. Our timing was pretty fortunate as we were able to 'sign on' shortly before the breeding process began.

I'm going to be swinging by to take on the 5126 word post when I can give it the focus that I'd like. I've skimmed it and am intrigued (and impressed that you included illustrations!)

Re: the wait. I assume that the difference between 'about three years ago' and 'about three years ago' is probably zero. How about between 'about three years ago' and 'about two years ago'? ;-)

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for sharing Stitch. We've been thinking about getting an assistance dog, and it is nice to read about the experiences of others (esp. when they are positive experiences). The Bear has recently started noticing dogs, and while she's not a flight risk, she definitely has a hint of wanderlust in her. We live in the country outside of an urban area, so an assistance dog with herding and protective instincts might be a good idea (not that we want to test them).

How long did you have to wait (recognizing the potential for rounding between 'about three years ago' and 'about three years ago')?

Re: length of post (1663 words). Strictly amateur (plus you had the decency to warn people). My last post - as someone (reasonably) noted - was so long (5126 words) that I'm expecting people to request their money back (sigh).

Kristina, Stitch is very mellow and very tolerant of just about any contact from the boys. The only exception is if MJ hits Stitch in frustration. When that happens, Stitch just gets up and moves a few feet away and sits back down. He's usually back with MJ a few minutes later.

I'm looking forward to Friday!

Shawn, Thanks so much for this----it is heartening to read about the well-named Stitch, esp. as Charlie is in a real phase of "dog-fear." I think what you say about how Stitch helps SJ calm down very interesting---is Stitch able to handle some fairly "forceful" gripping (so to speak)?

See you on Friday!
